Introduction

I still remember the magical night of 1st February 1964. I was a kid. My eyes were sleepy, but I held on because I wanted to know who would have won the XIV edition of the Sanremo Song Contest. I was already a fan of that sweet young girl who had charmed everybody the night before with her "This is my prayer" and when Mike Bongiorno declared she had won I celebrated as I had been the winner!
From that moment on I never stopped following Gigliola's career. I call her "my friend Gigliola", since, though she doesn't know, her songs have always been with me through both happy sad moments in my life.
So one day I decided to collect and preserve all that regarded her, who in the meanwhile had become a world-known star: newspaper articles, interviews, photo reports, records, covers, radio and video recording... a real collection still going on. All information in this biography are authentic and come not only from personal memories, but from original documents of the time (though there can be some mistakes due to newspaper errors). A bibliography would be difficult and boring to read, but among the sources of all this you'll find weekly magazines as "Sorrisi e Canzoni", "Oggi", "Gente", "Eva tremila","Novella 2000","Giovani", "Bolero teletutto", "Sogno", "Vip"; daily newspapers as "Il Corriere Della Sera", "La Repubblica", "Il Messaggero", "La Stampa","Il Giorno", "Il Mattino","Paese Sera","La Gazzetta del Sud", and then her partecipations to TV shows, Sanremo Song Contests, Canzonissima, European Song Contests, Un Disco per l'Estate, International Music Fairs in Venice, variety shows etc...
Among my memories, a particular one is of my grandmother Sara who had been a great supporter of my passion all her life long
THANKS
Particular thanks to Erminio Serio, my dearest friend Erminio, without whom all this would have never been possible.
